Common Cornflower (Centaurea cyanus)

Common (blue) Cornflower (Centaurea cyanus), fam. Asteraceae.
At some time this was a weed, which grew abundantly in not very well-maintained fields. Now we mostly can see the traditional blue cornflower in the garden beds. Usually it is grown from seeds sown directly into soil, in a sunny place. Watering is only necessary in case of strong heat and drought. There are annual and perennial cultivars.
Cornflower flowers decoction has diuretic, choleretic antibacterial properties, prevents blood clotting. Its medical application is limited due to intense bitter taste and the presence of slightly toxic components.
