Cinquefoil (Potentilla), fam. Rosaceae.
In DVRZ suburb and the vicinities, there are at least four species, relatively dissimilar to each other. Two of them (Creeping Cinquefoil and White Cinquefoil) bloom in spring (from April), and other two (Silverweed Cinquefoil and Silver Cinquefoil) – mostly in summer, but often start in May.
White Cinquefoil (Potentilla alba).
The flowers are almost similar to wild strawberry, but the leaves have no analogue among our plants – simple five-lobe shape, covered with wax-like substance. Probably, it is edible in small quantities; also has astringent properties. It is considered a unique remedy for thyroid, which has helped to many patients who tried a number of other treatments before. Unfortunately, leaves or flowers that are easily found in spring and summer are inapplicable for that; only roots dug in autumn are used. Their large-scale gathering caused this plant to become rare in some places of the world.
