Thesium ebracteatum

   Thesium ebracteatum, fam. Santalaceae.
Quite rare and isolated plant – its closest relative among our species is Mistletoe, a hemiparasitic bush. Thesium has similar abilities; however, unlike the mistletoe, they are not so easy to detect. Some of its rootlets attach to the roots of surrounding herbs, borrowing water and nutrients from them. As Thesium occurence is extremely limited, there is no need to consider anny harm to surrounding plants from its existence. On the contrary, we would only wonder that it happens to grow around DVRZ/Kyiv, since it is listed in the Threatened Species List.
Thesium blooms in May, and that is the time when it is the easiest to find. The photos below are taken near the railway in the direction of Brovary town.
