Mistletoe (Viscum album), fam. Viscaceae.
A hemiparasitic plant, obtains most its nutrition not like common plants (from the leaves), but from the sap of the host tree. This way, mistletoe causes definite harm to the trees, increasing their fragility. Sticky seeds are spread to new trees by birds (for example, Mistle thrush). It is practically impossible to get rid of a mistletoe that appeared on the tree, becuase it spreads its roots under the tree's bark a long way down, and can bring new shoots from there. Mistletoe is toxic, though it is sometimes used in medicine.
