Creeping Sweetgrass (Hierochloe repens)

Creeping Sweetgrass (Hierochloe repens), fam. Poaceae.
The Russian name "Zubrovka" indicates that this plant is a favorite food of European bison or wisent ("Zubr"), living in Belarus. Sweetgrass is used in alcoholic beverages industry, to prepare aromatic tinctures. However, the aromatic component of sweetgrass, coumarine, is not completely safe at overdose.
The plant is gathered during its blooming, when it looks the most attractive – from the bunches of tender greens the silver-green spikes appear.
In the penultimate photo you can see a tick, in a position characterictic to it – waiting at the top of a plant for a possibility to stick or fall on somebody passing by… This indicates that the blooming of sweetgrass is at the same time as the peak season of ticks activity, which is in the middle of spring.
