Puprle Loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria)

Puprle Loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria), fam. Lythraceae.
Occurs along the Darnytsia stream in the forest. Blooms almost all summer.
The plant is not toxic, but contains a lot of astringent components. Many folk superstitions and magic spells are linked to this plant. It has antiseptic, blood-stopping, tonic, wound-healing, antiinflammatory and sedative action.
It should be noted that Purple Loosestrife is not a relative of Yellow or Spotted Loosestrife, even not a distant one! The only things they have in common are tall candle-like inflorescences and thin leaves, often arranged by three in a whorl. In Russian, their names are not so identical, but still alike each other (compare Derbennik for Purple Loosestrife and Verbeinik for Yellow or Spotted Loosestrife).
