European Goldenrod (Solidago virgaurea), fam. Asteraceae.
   Unlike the Canada Goldenrod, the inflorescences of this local plant are grouped in rather inconspicuous separate "flowers", instead of lush bracts. Other properties of these species are mostly similar. In particular, European Goldenrod is also used in medicine due to its diuretic, antiinflammatory and antibacterial action. Toxicity of the plant makes it counterindicated for various patient groups, including pregnant women. In nature, the animals usually ignore goldenrod, and may be poisoned if they attempt to eat it.
