Creeping Phlox (Phlox subulata)

   Other articles describe Garden Phlox, blooming during the whole summer, and Wild Blue Phlox, which pleases or eyes in the late April till May. Among the flowers grown in Kyiv, there is a third species – Creeping Phlox. While wild blue phlox can be disguised as Periwinkle, creeping phlox may be easily confused with Carnation. Their similarity is in open pink flowers with five petals, crowded at the ends of the shoots; in the same terms of blooming (April-May); in opposite long and narrow leaves. Creeping phlox is a ground-covering plant. It does not need excessive care: prefers dry, loose, not very fertile soil, easily survives in very shallow soil; needs a lot of sunshine. It should not be watered much. Creeping phlox is perennial – it keeps decorative qualities about five years, then needs some rejuvenation.
