Arugula (Eruca sativa)

Arugula, Rocket salad (Eruca sativa), fam. Brassicaceae.
Except its main use as an edible plant, the ornamental qualities of arugula also deserve mentioning. Small but unique white flowers with brown veins appear in May-June. Until that time, the greens already roughen and become inedible, so if you need salad greens all the time, you should sow some extra seeds regularly. If the plant brings fruits successfully, it may run wild – contaminate the area with its seeds and self-sow indefinitely. In this feature arugula is similar to its wild analog – Perennial Wall-rocket.
