Spring Speedwell (Veronica verna), Dillenius' Speedwell (Veronica dillenii), fam. Scrophulariaceae.
Two close species, which can be distinguished by leaf shape.
These speedwells are one of the tiniest plants, pleasing our eyes as early as March or April, not reaching even 3-5 cm height. They depend to spring ephemers group, i.e. the plants which use first warm sunbeams, until the latter fall onto the bare soil. The subsequent growth of high grass hide speedwells from the view.
