Perennial Knawel (Scleranthus perennis), fam. Caryophyllaceae.
The clusters of the non-blooming plants make impression of some kind of moss. The appearance of greenish-white, inconspicuous, but quite numerous flowers changes the situation – now the plant looks like a typical steppe or desert species, kind of tumbleweed.
The plant is medicinal and fodder for horses, sheep and goats. It may be used for treating uterine cancer, tumors of various localization, warts, skin and subcutaneous fat tissue (boils). Knawel is used as an infusion of dries herb, or fresh juice from the overground parts.
