Sweet Alyssum (Lobularia maritima), fam. Brassicaceae.
A low ornamental plant. Its motherland is the Mediterranean, it grows in seeside dunes of the Canary Islands and the Azores, in France along the Bay of Biscay. It can be found blooming in different times of the year – in early spring as well as in August. Sweet Alyssum flowers are aromatic and rich in nectar, looking unproportionally lush for such a low herb. It prefers open sunny places to grow. Sweet Alyssum cannot bear either excess of mositure or a long drought.
