Wallflower (Cheiranthus or Erysimum cheiri), fam. Brassicaceae.
Originates from the Mediterranean. As a feral plant it occurs in Crimea and Caucasus. Green shoots survive winter if the temperature does not go lower than -18°C. In this case, wallflower blooms in early spring. If it is sown in spring, the blooming might be expected only in the second half of the year. Wallflower prefers sunny, warm places. Its flowers can have variable color, from yellow to red, with slight sweet smell.
The plant contains substances that regulate heart activity; it is also used to make laxative, diuretic remedies, and infusions for eye washing.
