Tickseed (Coreopsis), fam. Asteraceae.
Garden or Golden Tickseed (Coreopsis tinctoria) is an annual fast-growing herb from 30 to 100 cm height. This is an ornamental plant for landscape decoration and garden beds. The flowers are source of dye. The plant originates from the central areas of the USA. Analogous properties are common for Large-flowered Tickseed (C. grandiflora). The tickseeds bloom during the whole summer. Unfortunately, they are rare in Kyiv.
The seeds of tickseed resemble bugs in shape, and also reminds Beggarticks. They sprout rather slowly when planted. Similar to beggarticks, the essential oils and other components of tickseeds have antiseptic and antiinflammatory properties.
