Timothy-grass (Phleum pratense), fam. Poaceae.
Grows in humid forest clearings, not very often. Same as Meadow Foxtail, it has long, dense inflorescences. They can be distinguished by direction of scales of the separate flowers almost perpendicular to the spike axis, while Foxtail has them at sharp angle to the axis. The spike of Timothy-grass is tougher, without the hairs typical to Foxtail. Timothy-grass loves moisture, but is not demanding for mineral nutrition or warmth. This is a valuable fodder and lawn grass.
