Summer Cypress, Burning bush, Bassia (Kochia scoparia), fam. Chenopodiaceae.
An annual herb 15-150 cm height; green, but becoming red in autumn; very branched; reminds a small cypress in appearance. Its flowers are inconspicuous, and can be easily missed. This plant is commonly grown as ornamental, ready to be shaped as needed. Easily propagates by self-sowing and runs wild.
The infusion from the overground part of the herb is used as tonic and cardiotonic, sudorific, laxative, diuretic, etc. The leaves and shoots of Summer Cypress are edible for cattle, and also sometimes added to soups.
