Flossflower (Ageratum houstonianum), fam. Asteraceae.
Blooms in the city's flowerbeds from June to late autumn. The name "ageratum", meaning ageless, ever young - is given due to ability to be in flower for a long time, and to keep the flowers color. Lilac and purple tints predominate, but sometimes pink and white colors are also found. Originates from the tropics of North and South America; if not for the frosts, the plant would be perennial. Also, flossflower often suffers from waterlogged soil, various pests and diseases. The leaves contain acrid and toxic substances, that requires extra care from those who work with this plant.
