Oregano (Origanum vulgare), fam. Lamiaceae.
Single plants occur in sunny parts of the forest. They bloom in July-August. Owing to content of flavonoids, bitterness, phytoncides, and tannins, oregano has antiinflammatory, diuretic, and choleretic action. It is cultivated as a spice. However, if you are not familiar with this plant, don't expect it to be very aromatic. In fact, wild oregano from our forest has only slight smell.
