Umbellate Wintergreen (Chimaphila umbellata)

   Umbellate Wintergreen (Chimaphila umbellata), fam. Ericaceae.
   Rarely occurs in the forest – moslty under pines, where there is no grass covering the soil (see map). It blooms in June-July. Similar to Bearberry (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi) and Lingonberry (Vaccinium vitis-idaea), none of which grows in DVRZ/Kyiv, umbellate wintergreen is used for kidney and urinary tract diseases, and as tonic.
