Houndstongue; Gypsy flower (Cynoglossum officinale), fam. Boraginaceae.
Grows in the city and in the forest as a weed. Flowers are brownish-red, sometimes bluish, with unpleasamt smell. Toxic. Used as antiinflammatory, analgetic, healing remedy for bruises etc.; internal consumption is not recommended. Main use is as a strong raticide, i.e. against rats and mice. In experiments rats closed in a cage with houndstongue, with no possibility to escape, died quickly.
