Star of Bethlehem (Ornithogalum), fam. Liliaceae.
Grows in the garden beds of the city. Depends to the group of spring bulbous plants, blooms in April-May, then the leaves dye due to excess heat. Some related species are planted indoors named "Indian onion".
The Star of Bethlehem plant contains phytoncides and acrid substances. A piece of its leave may be used to rub on bruises, aching places in case of radiculitis or arthritis, and animal bites. The plant is toxic, and should not be ingested.
