Apricot (Armeniaca vulgaris), fam. Rosaceae.
   Despite its southern origin, apricot grows in Kyiv quite successfully, covered with flowers in spring and with fruit in summer (except 2012, but even then, after severe frosts, some flowers were observed). This agrees with the statements of some authors that apricots love the microclimate of cities.
   In case of the late spring, like in 2013, apricots flowering surely falls on warm and favorable weather, that provides abundant crops. There is only one "but": local cultivars are low-grade. May be, the guilt is not exactly on the cultivars, and their small fruits are caused by progressing soil depletion. Really - in the natural conditions all plant biomass returns to the soil; however, in the city the leaves are swept out, the grass is mowed several times per year, and the fruits are eaten - every action among these depletes the available nutrients in the soil. Instead, the land is sprinkled with sand and salt to combat the ice, with construction garbage from endless repairs, with stubs and plastic packaging.
