Chinese lantern (Physalis alkekengi), fam. Solanaceae.
Starting from the middle of summer, this plant becomes highly decorative owing to the husks covering the fruits. The berries inside them are almost identical to tomatoes with their shape, structure and beneficial properties. The content of toxic substances in the rest parts of the plant, except the ripe fruit, also unites physalis with tomatoes. In winter you can sometimes see the bouquets made of dry Chinese lantern branches with red fruit-covering husks.
