Arborvitae (Thuja occidentalis, Platycladus orientalis), fam. Cupressaceae.
Pyramidal evergreen bush or small tree, with blue "fruits" (actually cones) and pungent aroma. It is toxic (the main component of its essential oil – thujone is neurotoxic and abortifacient). The arborvitae preparations have cytostatic, choleretic, expectorant, sudorific, blood-stopping, astringent, tonic, diuretic, antirheumatic and hyperemic action.
The name of the plant means "Tree of life" from Latin, probably due to evergreen nature and longevity.
