Hornbeam (Carpinus), fam. Betulaceae.
Occurs in some areas of the forest. Old trunks, coated with thin branches, have specific "overgrown" look. An alley of young hornbeams has been planted along the Alma-Atynska street opposite to the stadium.
The leaves are rich in vitamins (especially C) and oils, organic acids, flavonoids, tanning substances. Sometimes they are used as cattle fodder, and their decoctions – as a tonic, antibacterial remedy, also promoting the brain blood circulation.
