Common Knotweed (Polygonum aviculare), fam. Polygonaceae.
Usually grows on the dirt roads and trails in the city. Trampling eliminates the plants-competitors, but only slightly acts on the knotweed itself, that is why it prefers exactly those places to grow.
The preparations from common knotweed have antimicrobal, antiinflammatory, diuretic action, accelerate wound healing, enhance immunity. There are recipes of salads from the knotweed, but it leaves and shoots are usually too tough to eat raw.
