Cocklebur (Xanthium albinum)

   Cocklebur (Xanthium albinum), fam. Asteraceae.
   Occurs along the banks of the lakes, not often. The plant contains a lot of iodine, so it is used for thyroid treatment; the juice is applied against skin diseases. Coclebur is moderately toxic and acrid. Its clinging composite fruits-burs have pleasant smell when cut.
