Angel's trumpets (Datura), fam. Solanaceae.
A plant which flowers are one of the greatest around us. These flowers are ephemeral – at the end of a hot summer day they spring from spiral-convoluted buds, emitting somewhat sharp but quite fragrant aroma. And then they fade at the beginning of the next day (if it is also hot) or keep for about one more day, which is more probable after the autumn coolness comes.
This is a toxic plant – its seeds are often eaten by risky teenagers due to the myth about their nacrotic properties, and then we hear the news about their hospitalization… Despite its toxicity, the plant is used in medicine. The leaves and sometimes the seeds of Angel's trumpets have therapeutic use as sedative and antispasmodic for whooping cough, bronchitis and bronchial asthma.
