Apple tree (Malus)

   Apple tree (Malus), fam. Rosaceae.
   A large variety of sorts in the city and in the forest, among them – edible and quite tasty; ornamental, with multi-color flowers and small fruit, which are often astringent and keep even through the winter (like several trees behind the DVRZ Cultural Centre); and completely wild, with tiny tart fruit.
   Apples are used as a dietary product for digestive disorders, avitaminosis, anemia, and as a diuretic. They provide tonic action and improve the body defense against radiation. Pectin substances of apples inhibit the growth of harmful bowel microflora, normalize digestion process, and promote cholesterol excretion from the body. However, it should be remembered that apples are one of the least valuable fruit on the content of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and other beneficial components. Nevertheless, this problem is relevant mostly for avid fans of apples, who it dozens of them - over time, this could lead to deficiency of some nutrients.
