Common Yarrow (Achillea millefolium), fam. Asteraceae.
Occurs in the forest in a wide variety of places, but mostly in sunny ones. Has a pungent but rather pleasant smell. Young unroughened leaves are edible in small quantities. The concoction from the leaves and inflorescences stimulates digestion. Yarrow has general tonic, analgesic, bactericidal, hemostatic, and antispasmatic properties. The medicines made from it are used against the gastrointestinal tract diseases, to normalize blood coagulation, and to improve metabolism. It is poisonous in large quantities.
