Sheep's bit, scabious (Jasione montana), fam. Campanulaceae.
Grows in the forest in dry places, on clearings and sands. Usually lives two years, and dies after flowering and fruiting. The seeds germinate in the same year, after that the sprouts spend the winter in the form of leaves rosettes.
The sheep's bit flowers are quite original, so it is a promising ornamental plant. Besides, there are indications on its medicinal properties - the preparations from sheep's bit have analgetic, spasmolytic, soothing, disinfectant, and blood-stopping action, and normalize blood pressure.
